TOTNES EARLY MUSIC SOCIETY |
||||
Totnes has been hiding a thriving music organisation that has been modestly but successfully running for over eight years. Its concerts are getting national and international listings and people attend from as far away as Bristol and Penzance. The Society puts on seven or eight concerts a year during the September to May season. Performers are largely drawn from the Early Music Directory of top earlymusic soloists and ensembles in the country. Previous seasons have included suchillustrious names as: Emma Kirkby & Fretwork, Jakob Lindberg, The Eroica Quartet, Charivari Agréable, Jacob Heringman & Susanna Pell, Apollo & Pan, Mediva, Alba, Colin Booth & Steven Devine, Charles Daniels & David Miller, The Palladian Ensemble, Opus Anglicanum, Carole Cerasi, Da Camera, Joglaresa and the Rose Consort of Viols. What is early music? One definition is: music earlier than the earliest music which was typically being performed in concerts at the time when performers decided to performearly music. No? Then how about: music from mediaeval times up to late baroque (about 1750)? |
