Eleanor Harrison and Andrew Maginley first collaborated at Opera in Space for productions of ‘Dido and Aeneas’ at King’s Place, London, and ‘Stabat Mater’ at the Museum of St John and on the Isle of Wight. Since forming a duo, they enjoy exploring the extensive repertoire for violin and continuo, especially the music of the early to high Baroque era.

Andrew Maginley is hailed as the most dynamic lutenist of a new generation. International solo recitalist and high profile continuo player Andrew is equally at home on the opera, orchestra, chamber and solo concert stage.

With a boundless passion for the virtuoso solo music of the baroque lute, his second solo recording, Andrew Maginley: The Baroque Lute features music by J.S. Bach, S.L. Weiss & Adam Falckenhagen, available on Avie Records.He has given solo performances at the Bachhaus in Eisenach, and live on BBC Radio 3. Festival appearances have included the International Handel-Festival Göttingen, Berlin Tage für Alte Musik, Telemann Festspiele Magdeburg, and the Händel Festspiele Halle. Andrew is co-director of The Frolick with contralto Emma Curtis an ensemble specializing in neglected chamber, opera and theatre music of the 17th- and 18th- centuries. The Frolick has performed in The Buckingham Summer Festival, The Buxton Festival, The British Museum, The London Maritime Museum, and for Margrethe II Queen of Denmark.

Andrew has performed with Sempreoper Dresden, Collegium 1704, and Oper Frankfurt, Edinburgh Festival 2013, Opera North, BBC Proms Royal Albert Hall with Glyndebourne Opera, Oper Stuttgart 1998-2006, Oper Klagenfurt, Oper Graz, Nederlandse Opera, New York City Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Liceo Opera Barcelona, The English Concert, The Ulster Orchestra, and Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, King’s Place with Steven Wallace, the Ulster Orchestra featuring Andreas Scholl and with soprano Danielle de Niese live on T.V. for the BBC Breakfast Show.·

Eleanor Harrison graduated with distinction from the Royal Academy of Music where she was awarded a scholarship to study baroque and classical violin. She was leader and soloist with the Baroque Orchestra and Becket Ensemble and was awarded the RAM Friends Prize for chamber music for two consecutive years. She later held a Leverhulme Junior Fellowship with her ensemble, ‘Four Temperaments’.

Eleanor has performed many times on BBC Radio 3 and at festivals in the UK and Europe, such as the Utrecht Early Music Festival and the Festival of Saintes. She enjoys performing and recording with ensembles such as London Early Opera, Charivari Agreable, the Haydn Lute Trio, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Florilegium, Gabrieli Consort, the Hanover Band, The London Handel Orchestra, English Touring Opera and the Brandenburg Baroque Soloists.

As a chamber musician and soloist Eleanor has been invited to perform at festivals across the UK and Europe and by promoters including Music for Galway, Totnes Early Music Society, Concerts in the West and Brighton Early Music festival. She has given recitals at many beautiful venues including Snape Maltings, Norwich Cathedral, the Handel House and Farnham Castle.

Eleanor also loves theatre and dance and has led orchestras for productions such as Bristol Old Vic’s ‘Coram Boy’, Opera in Space and Woodhouse Opera.
