TEMS has been running for twelve years. Our performers are largely drawn from the NEMA Early Music Yearbook and Performers Directory of top soloists and ensembles. Our concerts achieve national listings, with people attending from as far away as Bristol and Penzance. The season, which starts in September 2011, will be our twelfth and includes one concert in association with The Arts at Dartington, with whom we have been privileged to collaborate for the last three years. TEMS was set up in 1999 to offer an annual series of recitals to provide top quality, professional performances of historically-informed early music to people in South Devon. We are lucky to have good music available locally through the presence of Dartington, Devon Baroque, the Torbay Symphony Orchestra and others, but continue to see a need for an organisation which supports Early Music on a chamber music scale and can attract nationally recognised performers to this comparatively remote corner of the country. Membership is currently some 80 people. More than half of our members come from beyond Totnes – from villages and towns in the South Hams, Torbay, Exeter and Plymouth. |
